Also known as the “Niagara Falls of Kashmir, Aharbal is a hill station just 75 kms away from Srinagar. It is located next to the Veshu River, nestled amidst alpine forests. It lies at an altitude of 2266 metres above sea level. The place is very peaceful and suitable for expeditions, trekking, photography, and fishing. The beautiful look of the meadows, waterfall and pine trees surrounded by snow clad mountains attracts many tourists. Fishing: The Veshu River is stocked with trout. The fishing permit can be obtained from the Fisheries department stationed at Aharbal. Biking/Cycling: There are several biking/cycling trails across the meadows and near the waterfall which leads to beautiful view points. Zipline: For adventure lovers, there is a zipline just above the waterfall which gives a sense of flying across the gushing river. Nature Walks: Beautiful walking trails are scattered near the waterfall. There are some trails that lead up to the pine forests too Trekking: Aharbal Kausarnag Trek expedition is one of the major trek in the area. The trek starts from Aharbal waterfall. Kausarnag Lake is considered a sacred lake by the Hindus. It is one of the challenging treks in Kashmir as the trek crosses strenuous path, steep and rocky passes and altitudes near 4200m.
A high-altitude oligotrophic lake located in the Pir Panjal Range in the Kulgam District of Jammu and Kashmir. The lake is roughly 2 miles long and half a mile at the widest point. The trek to Kausarnag is via the famous waterfall of Aharbal. The lake is located in a valley that is surrounded by peaks on all sides with elevation in excess of 4000 metres above sea level. The lake has an elevation of 4,000 metres (13,000 ft) above sea level.
